Victorian-based referee Kate Jacewicz will create history when Melbourne City face Newcastle Jets this weekend.
Jacewicz will become the first female official to take charge of a Hyundai A-League match.
In August 2019, FFA announced Jacewicz as the first female member of the Hyundai A-League Referees Panel.
“Kate is without doubt one of the leading referees in the world at any level and we congratulate her on the appointment to the Hyundai A-League referees’ panel,” said FFA Chairman Chris Nikou in August.
The 34-year-old was chosen to officiate at last year’s Women’s World Cup, where she was in charge of two matches in the group stage. The Australian referee was also involved in the third-place playoff game, as the fourth official.
Jacewicz is one of the country’s most successful referees, winning the W-League Referee of the Year award seven times. She was the woman in the middle for nine W-League grand finals, as well as multiple FFA Cup matches.
Jacewicz refereed her first match at the age of 13.
After earning her FIFA badge years later in 2011, Jacewicz was selected to officiate at the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Jordan.
She will add another ground-breaking achievement to her accolades on Saturday.
