Earlier this year, Football West and Healthway partnered to increase mental health awareness for clubs and associations.
The state’s governing body for football looked to offer resource support, as well as a mental health education and training courses to aforementioned clubs and associations.
Leading mental health organisation Richmond Wellbeing recently delivered the first workshop of its Bouncing Back program to 25 MiniRoos coaches from Floreat Athena.
The feedback from both the Athena and Richmond Wellbeing was very positive, with coaches keen to engage and ask questions.
The Bouncing Back program provides clubs with tools to assess club members’ mental health and wellbeing. To book a session for your club visit HERE.
Meanwhile, six Football West coaches took part in a youth mental health first aid course delivered by Helping Minds. The course teaches adults who have frequent contact with adolescents, such as parents and sport coaches, how to assist adolescents who are developing a mental health issue or experiencing a worsening problem.
Football West Football Development Officer Gareth Naven said in a statement:
“The course raises awareness of the various challenges people face, gives you tools to understand what people are feeling and the steps of support for them. I would recommend all coaches experience this course.”
Helping Minds also offers free and informative workshops targeting education around mental health and wellbeing. There are workshops designed for young people as well as for those working with children.
