
A new report by Football Federation Australia (FFA) has revealed that in 2018 there’s been substantial national growth for the game of soccer.
The data across the last year shows that the game is in a good state and continues a healthy trend of growth. Some key takeaways from the report can be found below:
In 2018, there were 1,851,683 participants in total – an increase of 13% on 2017.
The other highlight for growth was participation from the A-League and W-League – the total of 726,342 was up by 14% on 2017. Participation could come from schools, community events and promotional experiences.
Among Australia’s 2,386 clubs, there were 527,650 participants with a retention rate of 72%.

Registered coaches – 36,252.

Schools – 558,429 participants.
Community events & promotional experiences – 550,495 participants.
With two new teams set to be introduced as part of expansion to the A-League, it’s hoped that greater reach will mean enhanced appeal to be involved in some capacity with the game.
